Colorado & Utah 2026 - Episode 2 (Mesa Verde National Park)

In May and June 2026, Sue, Willow, and I spent two months exploring Colorado and Utah, visiting nine National Parks and two National Monuments including the Great Sand Dunes, Mesa Verde, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Escalante National Monument, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Colorado National Monument, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and Rocky Mountain. We are chronicling our two-month journey in a series of videos. This video (Episode 2) features the highlights of our travels and our visit to the Mesa Verde National Park. Mesa Verde National Park covers approximately 82 square miles in southwestern Colorado. World-renowned for its rich archaeological heritage, the park protects nearly 5,000 archaeological sites, including more than 600 remarkably preserved cliff dwellings built by the Ancestral Pueblo people. Established in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt, Mesa Verde became the first U.S. national park created specifically to preserve cultural heritage rather than natural scenery. Today, it is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, honoring its extraordinary archaeological and cultural significance. Sue, Willow and I stayed in the park at the Morefield Campground inside the national park for 2 nights.
