In this first video of a two-part watercolor demonstration, I'll show you how I create dramatic, atmospheric skies by allowing water, gravity, and pigment to do much of the work.
Rather than overworking every brushstroke, watercolor has a way of creating beautiful effects when we learn to step back and let the medium speak for itself.
In this painting, I use flowing washes, gravity, soft edges, and layered pigments to build an expressive sky filled with light, mood, and atmosphere.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced watercolor artist, I hope this video encourages you to embrace the unpredictability and beauty of watercolor.
Part 2 will cover the reflective water and finishing touches of the painting.
