The Most Controversial White Wolf TTRPG | Beast: The Primordial Review

If you're new in town or new to this whole podcast thing, you're tuning into 'Lore by Night', the podcast that discusses all things vampiric, with no fear of breaching the Masquerade. In this episode, our Lore & Saviour reviews the Beast: The Primordial corebook. He will discuss the rules, lore and mechanics to help you better decide whether this is the game for you. Before discussing Beast: The Primordial itself, it is important to acknowledge the context surrounding its creator, Matthew McFarland. McFarland has been publicly accused of serious abusive behaviour, and those allegations have understandably affected how many people approach this game and its themes. That context cannot simply be ignored or separated from the conversations around Beast. However, examining a piece of media critically also means looking at the work itself: its design goals, its execution, and the contributions of the many writers and developers who worked on it. This review is not intended to excuse or minimise any harm caused by McFarland's actions, nor is it intended to dismiss the experiences of those affected. Rather, it is an attempt to examine Beast: The Primordial honestly — acknowledging both the valid criticisms of its themes and the complicated reality of how the game was developed.
