Winter dive for fat juicy mussels

It was an absolute beaut of a day, so I decided to head out on a solo mission with no real plan—just my fishing gear and dive gear, ready for whatever the ocean had in store. I started the day searching around for some bait, but had no luck. With the tide at its lowest, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to throw on the dive gear and check out a few mussel beds. Sure enough, there were heaps of fat kūtai waiting, so I grabbed myself a fresh feed. Back on the boat, I cracked open one of the mussels to have a look, and as soon as it opened, all I could see was cream oozing out. They were in incredible condition! From there, the adventure continued as I made the most of the day, seeing what else the ocean had to offer. Sometimes the best trips are the ones with no plan at all.
