The TVR race car is finally starting to look like a race car.
After discovering just how bad the original chassis was, we're now building up the brand new refurbished chassis for our 1992 TVR Griffith 4.0. And this time we're adding some seriously nice upgrades along the way.
In this episode of our TVR race car build, the team starts assembling the rolling chassis, fitting the differential, driveshafts, hubs, brakes and suspension components before turning our attention to the fuel system. We're also fitting a new fuel pump and motorsport fuel lines, fabricating a new mounting bracket and protecting the inside of the chassis against the corrosion that caused so many of the problems with the original.
And then things get rather exciting...
We've upgraded the front brakes to Wilwood four-pot calipers, saving a surprising amount of weight compared with the original setup. We weigh the old and new components to find out exactly how much weight we've managed to remove.
There's plenty of classic TVR engineering along the way too — including Sierra-derived suspension components, driveshaft clearance issues, factory-looking hammer modifications and a few moments where the dogs provide more supervision than the humans.
This is TVR Build Part 3, and we're getting closer to turning this 1992 Griffith into a proper track and race car.
If you've missed the earlier episodes, the original chassis was in seriously bad condition. Now we're starting again with a professionally refurbished chassis and building the car back up from the ground.
