Travelling from Hassan Junction to Mangalore covers a distance of about 183 km and takes around 6 ½ hours. Train No.16575 Gomteshwara Express runs from Yesvantpur Junction (Bengaluru) to Mangaluru Junction, covering 358 km in 9 hr 40 min on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Green Route is a segment along the Bangalore/Mysuru and Mangalore railway line in India, within the Western Ghat mountain ranges. The Shiradi Ghat train route is a scenic 55-km mountain stretch between Sakleshpur (altitude 906 m MSL) and Subrahmanya Road (altitude 120 m MSL) in Karnataka, famous for its steep slopes, dark tunnels and tall bridges through the Western Ghats. There are 57 tunnels, 248 bridges and 108 sharp curves. This railway track route was trekker's favourite when trains were not running on this track. This railway track route operated by South Western Railways has thick green vegetation besides rail line. Trains crawl at about 25 km/h over the ghat portion.
