Ramakkalmedu is a hill station and hamlet located in the Idukki district of Kerala, known for its high-speed winds and panoramic views.
Located in Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, about 45 kms from Cumbum, Tamil Nadu and 15 kms from Nedumkandam, Kerala. Rises approximately 1,100 meters (approximately 3,500 feet) above sea level in the western ghats.
Kuravan Kurathi Statue - the twin statue atop this hill depicts two historical figures associated with the construction of the Idukki Dam. The Idukki Arch Dam connects two massive rocky hills named Kuravan Mala and Kurathi Mala.
The name Ramakkalmedu translates to "Land of Rama's Stone" or "Land where Rama set his foot". Local legend states that Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana stood here while searching for Sita.
Famous for continuous, strong winds averaging around 30 to 35 km/h throughout the year. Home to an onshore Ramakkalmedu wind farm.
The hilltop offers views of nearby Tamil Nadu towns and villages including Cumbum, Theni and Bodinaykanur, which light up brightly at dusk.
