At four o'clock in the morning on the 8th of January 1935, a country doctor in Tupelo, Mississippi, wrote entry number 919 in his birth book: a boy, stillborn. Thirty-five minutes later he wrote entry 920: a second boy, alive. The second boy was Elvis Presley. The first was his twin brother, Jesse Garon.
Jesse was buried the next day in an unmarked grave at Priceville Cemetery, about a mile from the two-room house where the twins were born. In time no one in the family could find the exact spot. His mother Gladys believed that when one twin died, the one who lived got the strength of both. Elvis grew up with that belief, visited the cemetery as a boy, and spoke about his brother for the rest of his life.
This is the untold story of Jesse Garon Presley, Elvis's forgotten twin brother.
