The Clumsy Maid Fell Into the Crippled Duke's Lap — For the First Time in Years, He Stood Up

On her very first day at Stormhaven Hall, clumsy young maid Constance Pellow tripped on the great landing with a tray of tea and fell straight into the lap of the Duke, who had not walked in five years. His wheeled chair rolled toward the top of forty marble steps. And for the first time since his terrible fall, the Duke of Stormhaven stood up and held her safe. The house is in an uproar. The doctor calls it a spasm. His smiling stepmother wants the clumsy maid gone. But that night, Constance smells the Duke's evening medicine, and she knows the smell from her grandfather's poison shelf. Then she hears a cold voice outside the door: "Double the dose. He stood up." Secret midnight walks in the long gallery. A chemist's black book. Poison hidden in a maid's box. A madhouse on the moor, an old smugglers' tunnel and a tide that will not wait. Sit back, relax and enjoy this long historical romance full of secrets, danger, loyal friends, a wicked villain and a love that helps a broken man stand tall again.
