China shipped over 1 million vehicles out of the country in August — in a single month, and the third month running above a million. In that same month, car sales inside China fell 24%, the eleventh monthly fall in a row. Chinese buyers have stopped buying Chinese cars. The factories haven't stopped building them. So the cars are going somewhere else — and Britain is third on the list, behind only Russia and Brazil. Just over a quarter of a million Chinese-built cars landed here in the first half of this year alone. One in five new cars sold in Britain last month was Chinese: 19,819 registrations, 21% of the market. MG was up 93%. Chery's three brands — Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery — sold 8,618 between them, from a standing start less than two years ago. BYD sold 3,867, nearly twice Tesla's total. The reason Britain is on that list with Russia and Brazil isn't British buyers. It's British borders. The EU added 17% duties to Chinese EVs. America shut them out almost entirely. Britain did neither — and BYD ships right-hand-drive cars here from Thailand, outside those arrangements altogether. This video covers what actually happened inside China (a three-year price war its own regulators call cut-throat), the scale of the export surge — 7.15 million vehicles in eight months, more than all of last year, with EV exports up 155% — and the warning from Chinese regulators that the price war battering carmakers at home could spread to the markets the cars are landing in. Plus why China's biggest exporter isn't BYD but Chery, the company negotiating to build cars on the spare line at Sunderland. Covered honestly too: the cars are good, the warranties are long, Britain's open door is a deliberate policy, and Chery is building a headquarters and engineering centre in Liverpool. Would you buy a Chinese car? And should Britain follow Europe and add a tariff, or is a cheap new car worth more than a British car industry?
