People-pleasing, overthinking, hyper-independence, perfectionism, shutting down, self-sabotage. You've probably been told these are flaws to fix. They were adaptations. Each one was intelligent once, built by a nervous system solving a real problem, and it kept running after the danger stopped. Trauma researcher Dr Jen Achari walks through the six most common ones, what each was solving, and why you don't fix them, you outgrow the need for them.
In this video: the six adaptations and the condition each one was built for, why willpower can't switch them off, and what changes when your conditions change.
