GALLERY ABOVE THE LIGHT - BLOODBORNE INSPIRED ORCHESTRAL OF DARKNESS FOR WRITING & DEEP FOCUS
"The Gallery Above the Light" is a 7-track Bloodborne and Dark Souls inspired solemn orchestral album about a woman who has stood at a cathedral rail for nineteen years, reading names to the people below. The light came up through the floor of the nave in the second year and has not moved since. It is not hot and it does not hurt and there is no sound to it, and anyone can walk into it — that is what has killed more people than anything in the lower wards, because it does not look like a trap, it looks like a warm room at the end of a cold one. Nobody walks out. They can reach the boundary, stand at the edge, lift a foot; they simply do not cross, and every one of them says the same thing when asked why.

The light came up through the floor of the nave in the second year and it has not moved since, and it covers perhaps a third of the floor, and it is not hot and it does not hurt and there is no sound to it.
You can walk into it — anyone can, it takes no effort at all, and that is the thing that has killed more people than any monster in the lower wards, because it does not look like a trap, it looks like a warm room at the end of a cold one. You cannot walk out.
Not because anything holds you: people inside can move freely, can walk to the boundary, can stand at the edge with a foot raised, and they simply do not step over, and every single person who has ever been asked why says the same thing in different words — not yet.
They are not suffering. They are not frightened. They talk to people at the rail, they answer questions, they are entirely themselves. They just do not come out, and after a while they stop coming to the edge at all. There are two hundred and six of them down there.
She comes to the gallery every night, and it runs the length of the nave forty feet above the floor, and from the rail you can see the whole pool and everyone standing in it. She knows all of them — not vaguely, but by name and most by voice, because she was the one who kept the register when the parish still had a register, so she has the list, and she has been adding to it for nineteen years: name, date they went in, who came to the rail for them afterward and for how long.
That last column is the one she cannot look at for long. Most of them stop being visited within a year, and there are people down there who have not had anyone at the rail in eleven years and who still look up when the gallery door opens.
So she goes, every night, and stands at the rail and goes down the list and says the names, all two hundred and six of them, out loud, and the ones near the edge that night look up and answer. She has never gone down. She thinks about it constantly and she is honest with herself about why she does not: not courage, not duty — she is simply more afraid of being in it than she is ashamed of being out of it, and nineteen years at a rail have not changed that balance by a single degree.
And she is fifty-eight. The register is hers, the names are hers, and nobody has asked to learn either, and when she stops coming there will be two hundred and six people standing in a warm light in an empty cathedral and nobody above them who knows who they are.
That is the thing she is actually deciding, up on the gallery, night after night. Not whether to go in. Whether going in is the only way left to stay with them.
