MERCY OR JUDGMENT - BLOODBORNE INSPIRED DARK ORCHESTRAL FOR WRITING & DEEP FOCUS "Mercy or Judgement" is a 7-track Bloodborne and Dark Souls inspired dark orchestral album following a crowned figure seated above his own burning city — the fire his, lit by his own hand, and he has set himself here to watch it finish. He wants that plain: no enemy, no accident, no slow rot he failed to stop. His decision, his city going up exactly as he intended. It would have been easy to light it and walk away, to be over the far hills before the glow came up and let distance do its work on the memory — but he decided he would not be permitted that. And here is what he cannot settle, and has stopped expecting to: he does not know whether this was mercy or judgment. Whatever this is, it is mine. And I have set myself here to watch it, because it would have been easy to light it and walk away, to be over the far hills before the glow came up and let distance do to the memory what distance does. I have seen men do the terrible necessary thing and then arrange never to look at it again, and live comfortably after. I decided I would not be permitted that. Here is what I cannot settle, and have stopped expecting to: I do not know if this was mercy or judgment. There were reasons — good ones, a thing in the city that should not spread, a suffering already begun that would only widen — and the arithmetic says the fire is kinder than the alternative. That is the mercy version, in which I loved them enough to end it cleanly and took the weight so no one else would have to. But there is another version I cannot make go away: that I was angry, or afraid, or tired of holding what I could no longer hold, and the reasons came after — assembled, neat, convincing, the way reasons always arrive to escort us toward the thing we already wanted to do. In that version the fire is not mercy. It is the largest tantrum a man was ever given the means to throw, dressed as salvation because I cannot survive it undressed. I have looked for the seam between those two men — the one who saved his city and the one who destroyed it in a mood and called it saving. They make the same decision. They light the same fire. The only place the difference lives is in what I felt in the moment my hand moved, and that is the one piece of evidence I cannot retrieve. If I saved them, this is a vigil, and someone should keep it. If I murdered them, it is the least I owe: to give it a witness who cannot claim afterward that he did not fully see. Either way the duty is the same. Sit. Watch. Do not turn. The city goes, and it goes beautifully, which is its own cruelty — fire does not know whether it was invited for good reasons or bad, it simply does the bright thorough work of fire. I will sit until it's done. Then I will get up and carry both versions of myself away from here, unreconciled, for whatever is left of my life — the merciful man and the monstrous one, the same weight either way, because I will never be able to set down the one that isn't true, having lost the ability to tell which one that is. I lit it myself. That much I get to keep. The rest burns with everything else. This is a Human-led creative project. All worldbuilding, character development, lore, and narrative direction are original human work. AI tools (Midjourney for visuals, Suno for music) used as instruments.
