Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department units from Battalion 408-B responded to a commercial building fire. Prearrival information indicated the caller could see fire from the roof area. E426 communicated the primary water supply plan and arrived to find a large one- and two-story commercial building with fire showing from the roof area in the Delta quadrant, over the one-story roof section. Several building workers were on the roof using dry chemical extinguishers in an attempt to suppress the fire. BC408 established command and requested a RIT Task Force. R408 conducted an interior investigation and found the building clear of smoke and fire. They reported no plenum space and were able to see the metal roof directly from below. E426 stretched a 1.88-inch attack line over a ground ladder to the roof and extinguished the fire. E422 stretched a second attack line and stood by on Floor 1. BC202 was assigned Roof Division with T422, TL208, and TL405 and coordinated vertical ventilation. E422 and R408 coordinated utility control. EMS402 coordinated decontamination and rehabilitation. Remaining fireground assignments and benchmarks were completed. At the 40-minute mark, the fire was confirmed extinguished. The roof was thoroughly checked, with no extension identified. Following a tailboard critique, command was held with two engines and one truck. BC408 ready.
