We know what ancient humans ate, hunted, carved and buried. But roughly half of every life they ever lived happened after sunset — and almost nobody thought to ask what was going on in there.
When researchers finally did, the answers broke most of what we assume about sleep, darkness, and why some of us can't fall asleep before 1 AM.
They didn't sleep more than you. They fell asleep when it got cold, not when it got dark. And on any given night, a third of the camp was quietly awake.

A note on the segmented sleep research: the "first sleep / second sleep" pattern is very well documented in pre-industrial Europe, but it does not show up in the Hadza or San data. The likeliest reading is that it's a high-latitude winter pattern rather than a universal human one. Worth knowing if you've seen it presented as how all our ancestors slept.
