WHEN COMPASSION FEELS WRONG | The Offensive Nature of Grace Sacred + Unfiltered with Genesis We love talking about grace…until it reaches somebody we believe doesn't deserve it. The cases of Lindsay Clancy and Latarsha Sanders sparked a much bigger conversation about motherhood, mental illness, criminal responsibility, justice, and the uncomfortable reality of Christian grace. As a mother living with clinical depression and anxiety, I found myself wrestling with questions that weren't nearly as easy to answer as I expected. Can we grieve victims without dehumanizing the people who harmed them? Does understanding someone's mental health mean excusing their actions? And what happens when there is no explanation that makes someone's behavior easier to understand? We're talking about the difference between grace and acquittal, forgiveness and reconciliation, justice and vengeance—and what Jesus reveals about mercy when it reaches the guilty. Because maybe the real question isn't whether God extends grace. Maybe it's whether we're comfortable with who receives it. This isn't a conversation about defending anyone's actions or minimizing the lives lost. It's an invitation to examine what we actually believe about grace, accountability, and humanity. Scripture: Genesis 1:26–27 | Luke 23:39–43 CONTENT NOTE: This episode discusses the deaths of children, suicide, severe mental illness, violence, and abuse. No graphic details are discussed. 🎙️ Sacred + Unfiltered Hosted by Genesis — the rebel PK and your unconventional church girl. Come as you are. Leave with something to wrestle with.
