He claims that, while it is true that The Coalition has spent that much money since the launch of Gears 5 in 2019, a lot of that cash did not go into developing E-Day specifically. Phantom Blade Zero has sold over 4 million copies in just 72 hours (3 days)! It also has fantastic critic and user reception across the board: According to Corden's sources, "The Coalition has been contributing to a variety of other Xbox flagship titles that use Unreal Engine, including games like Avowed and State of Decay." However, the situation involves more than just collaborative work on other Xbox projects. The sheer volume of people who expect Game Pass subscribers to also then buy the games at full price day one is insane bro lmao You can really tell who doesn’t use the platform and doesn’t give a fuck about it Apparently, "The Coalition worked for over a year and a half on a prototype project for Xbox that was ultimately canceled. The studio also worked on Avowed, Hellblade 2, Clockwork Revolution, State of Decay 3, Grounded and Grounded 2, and has even contributed to the upcoming StarCraft reboot." Corden suspects that The Coalition may be hit with layoffs in the near future, though he has not heard from his sources that Xbox is planning to shutter the studio entirely. So GTA 6 doesn't look to have moved the needle at all for Xbox, out of all of Microsoft's failures this has to be the worst. Jez went from ‘debunking’ Gears cost $500 million to now saying he believes Microsoft Xbox leaked the number to justify more layoffs… We told you this was coming and game was being sent out to die the day they pulled it from PS5 And when the new strategy fails (and it is) then so will the plan…. This is why a games company should never try to appease fanboys, they don't understand the business, they can't be objective and tend to look at everything through a tribal lens, they can't see the wood for the trees. Ultimately, a business needs to make money and Xbox as a brand has tanked completely outside of the US & UK and even within them. Microsoft needs to go the third party route, yes it will piss off Xbox fanboys but the main purpose of a business is to make money not to appease gamers on social media who are terminally online, it is not reality. Going third party will be the best thing for Microsoft and for devs at Microsoft, it will stop the bleeding.
