UP 7840 Z-Train Intermodal w/ UP 1996 SP Heritage North - Kiernan Ave. Railroad Crossing, Salida CA

(Filmed January 31, 2026) After catching the oil train, I went out to the Salida-Modesto area to run a few errands. In addition, I also had to film the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church's (Modesto) bells a second time but this time at noon. Once that was all said and done, I came here to Kiernan Avenue (Salida) to catch the ZLCTM intermodal stack train for UP. It had the Southern Pacific heritage unit, UP 1996, on it as one of the rear DPUs. I had to come here an hour prior to its arrival so I could setup early. I was given some extra wait time as the z-train had to hold in Livingston for the southbound Long Beach I-train before continuing without further delay. The train got to my location shortly after 2 PM. This was my first time seeing 1996 in nearly three years. Fun Fact: I managed to catch all six of Union Pacific's Heritage Units in a seven-month time span dating back to last July. This was my last catch of the day and great way to end off the month of January. This crossing owned by Union Pacific is a UP late 1990s to early 2000s signal install with changes to its bells, lights, light heads, gates, gate lights and the close signal’s mechanism and counterweight arms.
