✨ October 19 · Saint Peter of Alcantara: the barefoot friar who slept sitting up, built the doors of his friary so low that you had to enter sideways, and understood Teresa of Ávila when almost no one trusted her prayer. Did you know that in Coria people came to their doors and windows just to watch him pass, barefoot and always bareheaded? Sixty years later, neighbors who were by then elderly swore before Church judges what they had seen as children. And in Ávila, a Carmelite nun who suffered the distrust of good people found in him someone who understood her from experience. In this video you'll discover: 🚪 Why Friar Peter made the doors of El Palancar so low and narrow in 1557, and what he answered the builders. 📜 How his own brothers in the province of Saint Gabriel treated him as a fugitive and apostate, even though he held a papal permission to live as a hermit. 🕯️ What he told Teresa in Ávila in 1560, and how his letter of April 1562 helped her decide to found Saint Joseph's in poverty. ⛪ What neighbors said under oath in the Coria process of 1616, and which parts are devout memory rather than documented history: the Mass under the storm, the river and the holy fig tree. Saint Peter of Alcantara, born in 1499 and died in Arenas on October 18, 1562, was canonized in 1669 and has been patron saint of Brazil since 1826. His story shows how a very narrow life left room for the poor at the friary gate, the neighbors of El Pedroso, and a nun who needed to be understood. Follow the journey all the way to the closing prayer to Saint Peter of Alcantara. The Mass in the open field under the storm, the crossing of the Tagus without a boat and the fig tree grown from a dry staff are accounts the neighbors swore to as the memory of their land, and the episode tells them as such. #HistoryOfTheSaints #FidesViva #SaintPeterOfAlcantara #SaintOfTheDay #Franciscans #SaintTeresaOfAvila 📌 Chapters 0:00 Known by Voice 3:08 Without Office 5:50 Simple Use 8:39 Come Here, My Children 11:54 What They Saw and What They Heard 14:00 Fugitive and Apostate 17:53 The Little Book 20:43 He Understood Me from Experience 22:58 Contenting the Body 25:40 Laetatus sum 28:02 The Holy Fig Tree 📚 Sources and bibliography Primary sources Teresa of Ávila, Book of Her Life, ch. 27 — padreeduardosanzdemiguel.blogspot.com/2012/10/santa-teresa-habla-de-san-pedro-de.html · es.wikisource.org/wiki/Su_vida_(Santa_Teresa_de_Jes%C3%BAs)/Cap%C3%ADtulo_XXVII Peter of Alcantara (attributed), Treatise on Prayer and Meditation (16th c.)
