Why German Cars Aren’t BUILT Like They Used To Be

Everyone knows Volkswagen cheated on emissions tests. Almost nobody knows what the cheat actually did. The defeat device bypassed a nitrogen oxide trap — which cuts pollutants but increases fuel use. So the solution existed, it worked, and it was switched off in normal driving because leaving it on hurt the economy figures. They didn’t cheat because they couldn’t solve it. They cheated because solving it cost something they wouldn’t give up. Bill: around $38 billion. But this isn’t the “cars used to be better” video, because the German inspection data says otherwise. 59.4% pass with zero defects.
