Just three days after returning to the main line, LNER B1 No. 61306 'Mayflower' would head into Southern territory at the head of a Steam Dreams Valentines Day circular trip, running through the South Downs. Beginning at London Victoria, the tour would run via Staines and Woking, before dashing down the Portsmouth Direct Line to Havant and Fareham. The tour would then join onto the South Western Main Line at Eastleigh for the run back to the Capital, via Winchester and Basingstoke.
We begin in glorious sunshine at Byfleet & New Haw, where the B1 is seen ascending the climb onto the South Western Main Line. The second location is a footbridge just south of Farncombe, on the Portsmouth Direct Line. Following a pathing stop at Guildford, the loco is seen getting back up to speed, with a nice few blasts on the whistle. A large crowd had gathered for the occasion! Next, it was over to Winchester, to witness the train return to London. Once again, 'Mayflower' is in fine form as it thunders through the station. The fourth and final sequence comes from the water stop at Basingstoke, where we're able to get a closer look at the loco, before witnessing the departure a few minutes later, as the rain begins to fall.
