WALLS OF FACES, UNIDENTIFIED BODIES: THE AGONY AFTER NEPAL FLOODS
The Nepal floods have left a trail of death, destruction and thousands of families desperate for answers.
At Tribhuvan University’s Teaching Hospital, families gather outside the mortuary, scanning photographs and identification notices in the hope of finding a missing loved one. Inside, the scale of the tragedy is overwhelming facilities, with authorities struggling to manage unidentified and incomplete remains.
For families, the disaster has entered its most painful phase: not knowing whether the person they are searching for is alive, missing—or among the dead.
Kya aapse bhi apno ka sampark toot gaya hai? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

[00:07] THE WALL OF FACES
Outside Tribhuvan University’s mortuary, photographs of the dead have been displayed so families can try to identify relatives who remain missing.
Every photograph represents a family waiting for an answer.

[02:14] SILENT PHONES — FAMILIES LEFT WITHOUT ANSWERS
Communication breakdown has made the search even more painful. Tour operators and relatives describe losing contact with family members after they passed through the disaster-hit region.
When phones stop ringing and roads disappear, families are left with little more than fragmented information.

[04:43] MORTUARIES OVERWHELMED
The humanitarian crisis is now reaching hospital mortuaries. Authorities are reportedly dealing with bodies that are incomplete or difficult to identify, adding another layer of trauma for grieving families.
The challenge is no longer simply recovering bodies—it is identifying them and returning them to their families.

[07:04] A DISASTER OF UNPRECEDENTED SCALE?
The devastation is being compared on the ground with Nepal’s 2015 earthquake, with fears that the death toll could continue to rise as rescue and recovery operations reach previously inaccessible areas.

[10:13] A WIFE’S WAIT
Behind the statistics are individual stories of families waiting for one phone call.
One wife continues to wait for information about her missing husband, holding on to the possibility that he may still return.

♦️The disaster does not end when the floodwaters recede.
The second crisis begins with the missing.
Families need functioning communications, centralised missing-person databases, rapid identification systems and coordinated humanitarian support across borders. For those waiting outside a mortuary, every photograph, every name and every unanswered phone call is part of a desperate search for closure.
