A $3,300 load can still be a bad load.
That’s because the number on the rate confirmation doesn’t tell you what that load actually does to your business.
What if that $3,300 load takes four days to complete?
What if it has multiple stops, burns more fuel, ties up your truck, and leaves you sitting in a weak freight market when it’s finished?
What if the load that paid less would have allowed you to make two or three profitable moves during the same period?
That’s the difference between chasing the highest-paying load and managing a profitable trucking operation.
In this video, I break down why owner-operators need to look beyond the headline rate and start evaluating:
• Time consumed by the load
• Loaded AND deadhead miles
• Fuel and operating costs
• Where the truck finishes
• What freight is available next
• The economics of the entire week
• What the business actually retains
Rate per mile matters.
Gross revenue matters.
But neither number tells the entire story.
A fleet owner has to ask a different question:
What does accepting this load do to the rest of my week?
Because the highest-paying load can still create the lowest-quality week.
