DESCRIPTION: At Creston Airfield, Maren and her family learn that each helicopter can take only three civilians even though there are four people in their family. The family reaches the evacuation point after leaving Maren’s father’s cabin, but the three-seat limit forces them to consider which parent or child would remain behind for a later flight. Sam even offers to stay, while Maren tries to argue that the family’s combined weight should allow all four to board, but the commanding officer refuses to change the passenger configuration. Maren then receives a hand-drawn map for a military convoy traveling by road to the same compund, and the family chooses the more dangerous route because it allows all four of them to stay together. They cross a bridge packed with infected beneath them and eventually reach the compound with every member of the family still together.
