Bachata | Ritmo y Sabor 2026: Tras Los Años

Relive Ritmo y Sabor's Tras Los Años! Sticking with dances from the Dominican Republic, we’re going from the high-tempo energy of merengue to the sensual rhythm of bachata. Entering into the year 2016, our next dance is set to “Smoke Filled Room by Mako & Elephante,” a song whose atmospheric sound captures feelings of tension and connection. Originally an EDM song by Mako outside the traditional bachata genre, this remix captures how bachata became a global dance style known for its intimate partner work, fluid hip movements, and deep emotional expression. Drawn to the song’s moody feel and lyrics, choreographers Daniel De Campo Bonomo and Mar Casajuana created a piece that plays with moments of closeness and distance. Through smooth footwork and expressive movement, this dance captures the quiet connection that can exist without words. Performance featuring Liliana Beltran, Daniel De Campo Bonomo, Germán Cárdenas, Mar Casajuana, Daniela Castillo, Paloma Curo Levano, Rian Finn, Emma Nicole García Gupton, Nathalia Sofia Guzman, Juan Francisco Herrera, Jiwon Kim, Teagan Maxymillian, Zella O’Malley, Andrea Ponte Figueroa, Brianna Lya Ríos, Seta Sahagian, Alice Shen, and Venus Worjloh.
