A slow-burning acoustic folk ballad about scrubbing a dark room clean, facing old fear and grudges, and standing in the wet mess of a love that has not left yet.
The singer works with cold water and rolled sleeves, scrubbing a house while never once meeting the eyes of the person holding the lamp. That light exposes the dirt in the small dark corner that never sees the sun, and for the first time the singer does not run from the hurt. Fear, grudges and lies are washed under rain and open skies, and much of what seemed permanent turns out to be paint on glass that comes away, though some of it will leave a stain. In the end the bucket is gray, the coat is on, the floor is wet, and the singer holds on to the words that the mess is not the man while the leaving still has not been spoken.
