A case has come to light in Delhi in which a stolen motorcycle was allegedly used to carry out a chain-snatching crime. The East District's Mandawali Police have arrested 22-year-old Love Kumar for allegedly snatching a gold chain. According to the police, the accused and his associate targeted a woman returning home from a temple. The police have recovered the snatched gold chain and a TVS Apache motorcycle allegedly stolen from the South Rohini area.
According to the police, at around 7 AM on October 4, 2026, a woman was returning home from a temple in the Mandawali area. As she approached the entrance gate of her house, motorcycle-borne snatchers allegedly targeted her. One of the accused snatched the gold chain from her neck, and both fled on a red motorcycle.
Following a complaint by the woman's son, Shyam, Mandawali Police registered FIR No. 359/26 and launched an investigation. To identify the suspects, the police team examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras installed in and around the area. Technical surveillance and information from secret informers helped investigators move forward.
Bike Stolen from Rohini, Then Allegedly Used in Chain Snatching
During the investigation, the police discovered that the TVS Apache motorcycle allegedly used in the crime was stolen. An e-FIR concerning the motorcycle had been registered at South Rohini Police Station on July 20, 2026. This meant that the motorcycle used in the Mandawali chain-snatching case was already linked to a vehicle theft case.
After sustained investigative efforts, the police arrested Love Kumar near Akshardham. According to the police, he was riding a motorcycle with an associate at the time. The police claim that the two were allegedly present in the area with the intention of committing another crime. When the police took action, Love Kumar's associate managed to escape, leaving the motorcycle behind.
The police recovered the snatched gold chain from the accused and seized the stolen TVS Apache motorcycle. Love Kumar, aged 22, is a resident of Khanpur Kalan in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh.
Mandawali Police are now searching for the absconding associate. Investigators are also examining whether the accused allegedly used the stolen motorcycle in any other chain-snatching incidents or criminal activities.
From stealing a motorcycle to allegedly using it for chain snatching, the case highlights the importance of vehicle verification and CCTV footage in investigating street crimes in Delhi. However, the accused's possible involvement in other incidents remains under investigation and will need to be established through further inquiry.
