Most organisations have a data privacy policy. Far fewer can say their people understand what it means for the decisions they make every day.
In this first session of our Privacy in Practice series, data privacy and AI governance specialist Vincent Labuschagne explores the gap between having a policy and putting it into practice.
Vincent explains why awareness alone is not enough. Knowing a rule exists is not the same as knowing when and how to apply it. He walks through what happens when an employee enters customer information into an AI tool such as ChatGPT, how that information may be processed, and where it could end up. He also examines the differences between free AI tools and properly governed alternatives, and why these distinctions matter for organisations seeking to adopt AI responsibly.
The conversation then moves from principles to practical action, exploring two approaches to AI governance: restricting its use or enabling it responsibly. Vincent unpacks what an effective governance framework requires and outlines five practical steps leadership teams can take to align AI use with business strategy, manage risk and establish clear accountability.
At Pétanque NXT, we believe sustainable transformation starts with clarity, sound governance and the practical application of responsible processes. As organisations navigate the growing use of AI, privacy and governance cannot remain policies on paper. They need to inform everyday decisions, behaviours and ways of working.
Privacy in Practice is a series exploring data privacy, responsible AI and governance in practice, helping organisations move from awareness to informed action.
