Snowshoe Bike Park Giant Trance X MX 29/27.5 mullet conversion riding impressions second lap in 4K. I get a flat and then weather shuts down the lift Sorry my helmet cam shots of the bike did not have the bike all in the frame. I brought the bikes on a trip to Snowshoe Bike Park. I took the mullet conversion on a lap of Easy Street the green trail at Snowshoe. To be fair slow speed turning is worse than the standard configuration, but at speed it rode great. From my first impressions it is probably not good for slow speed tech trails but otherwise I think it would make a fun bike park bike. Mullet conversion Trance X 27.5 gets 29er Fox 36 160 fork, plus Trance X 29 gets reverse mullet. My son had indicated he wondered what a 29er would be like since he has been riding 27.5 bikes since he started mountain biking. This experiment was possible since my bike was the 29er version of his bike. I decided to swap forks between the bikes, they both had Fox 36 160mm with the Grip2 damper, meaning other than the designed wheel size they are primarily the same. His is the performance elite version and mine is the Factory version so the stanchions are different but that should not impact how they ride. The big change to the geometry is the impact of lifting the front of the bike. -- By adding the larger wheel radius (+19mm) to the taller 29er fork chassis (+20mm), you are raising the front by nearly 40mm total. -- Head Tube Angle: Slackens by approximately 1.6° to 1.8°. If your frame was at 63.8° in the low setting, it will now sit at a hyper-slack ~62.0°. -- Bottom Bracket Height: Rises by roughly 14mm to 16mm. This significantly increases pedal clearance but raises your center of gravity, which can make cornering feel less stable. -- Seat Tube Angle: Slackens by about 1.6°. This shifts your hips significantly backward, making the front wheel very light and prone to lifting on steep climbs. -- Reach and Stack: Frame reach shortens by roughly 10mm to 12mm, while the stack height increases dramatically by nearly 40mm, forcing you into a much more upright stance Our Bikes: My son's 2022 Giant Trance X 1, 27.5 size XL.
