What Does It Mean to Have Peace With God? | Isaiah 9:1–7

What does it mean to have peace, and where does true peace come from? Continuing the Advent season, Pastor Straton Michelle examines Isaiah 9:1–7 and the promise of the coming Messiah, who is called the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Isaiah points toward a kingdom where war will end and peace will have no end. The sermon considers two different understandings of peace: the end of hostility and the inner peace that comes from resting in God. While the world continues to experience conflict and turmoil, the promise of lasting peace ultimately points to the kingdom of Christ. The message then turns to what Christians are called to do now. Peace begins with reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ. Because we have peace with God, we are also called to live at peace with others as far as it depends on us, showing the love, forgiveness, gentleness, and humility we have received from Christ.
