توحیدِ اسماء و صفات توحیدِ اسماء و صفات سے مراد یہ ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ کے جن اسماء و صفات کا ذکر قرآنِ مجید اور صحیح احادیث میں آیا ہے، ان پر ایمان رکھا جائے اور اللہ تعالیٰ کو ان صفات میں یکتا مانا جائے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ کے اسماء و صفات کامل اور بے مثال ہیں، اس لیے انہیں نہ مخلوق کے ساتھ تشبیہ دی جائے اور نہ ان کی حقیقت کا انکار کیا جائے۔ مسلمان اللہ تعالیٰ کی صفات کو اسی طرح مانتا ہے جیسے وہ اس کی شان کے لائق ہیں۔ تعطیل، تمثیل، تکییف اور تحریف اللہ تعالیٰ کی صفات کے بارے میں غلط طریقے ہیں۔ تعطیل کا مطلب اللہ تعالیٰ کی ثابت شدہ صفات کا انکار کرنا یا انہیں بے معنی قرار دینا ہے۔ تمثیل سے مراد اللہ تعالیٰ کی صفات کو مخلوق کی صفات کے مشابہ قرار دینا ہے۔ تکییف کا مطلب اللہ تعالیٰ کی صفات کی کیفیت یا طریقہ متعین کرنا ہے، جبکہ تحریف سے مراد اللہ تعالیٰ کے اسماء و صفات کے الفاظ یا معانی کو ان کے درست مفہوم سے پھیر دینا ہے۔ اہلِ سنت کا طریقہ یہ ہے کہ صفات کو ثابت مانا جائے، مگر ان کی کیفیت اللہ تعالیٰ کے سپرد کی جائے۔ استویٰ علی کا مفہوم قرآنِ مجید میں اللہ تعالیٰ کے عرش پر استواء کے بیان سے متعلق ہے، جیسے فرمایا: "الرَّحْمٰنُ عَلَى الْعَرْشِ اسْتَوَى"۔ استواء کا معنی اللہ تعالیٰ کی شان کے مطابق عرش پر بلند ہونا اور مستوی ہونا ہے، لیکن اس کی کیفیت ہمیں معلوم نہیں اور نہ اسے مخلوق کے استواء کے مشابہ قرار دیا جا سکتا ہے۔ اس لیے ہم اس صفت پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں جس طرح اللہ تعالیٰ نے خود بیان فرمائی، بغیر تشبیہ، تکییف، تحریف اور تعطیل کے۔ Tawheed of Names and Attributes Tawheed al-Asma wa al-Sifat means believing in the names and attributes of Allah that are mentioned in the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah, and believing that Allah is unique and incomparable in His names and attributes. His attributes are perfect and unlike the attributes of His creation. Therefore, we affirm them as they have been mentioned, without comparing them to the creation or denying them. Ta‘teel, Tamtheel, Takyeef, and Tahreef are incorrect approaches regarding the attributes of Allah. Ta‘teel means denying or rejecting Allah’s established names and attributes. Tamtheel means comparing Allah’s attributes to the attributes of His creation. Takyeef means trying to define or imagine the exact manner or “how” of Allah’s attributes. Tahreef means changing or distorting the wording or meaning of Allah’s names and attributes from their correct meaning. The correct approach is to affirm Allah’s attributes while leaving their exact nature and manner to Allah. Istawa ‘Ala refers to Allah’s statement concerning His rising over the Throne, as mentioned in the Qur’an: “The Most Merciful rose over the Throne.” We affirm this attribute in a manner befitting Allah’s majesty, without asking how it is and without comparing it to the actions of creation.
