🦋 A Walk Between Sea and Sky 🦋 High above the English Channel, The Leas has been a place to walk, breathe and admire the view for generations. Once the fashionable promenade of Victorian and Edwardian Folkestone, these clifftop lawns have welcomed royalty, writers, holidaymakers and countless ordinary people simply taking a stroll beside the sea. Charles Dickens stayed here. Grand hotels rose along the clifftop. Music drifted from the bandstand. Below, Victorian visitors travelled between the promenade and seafront by cliff lift, while during the First World War millions of servicemen passed through Folkestone on their journeys to and from the Continent.
