Downriver from Belgrade there is a village with a seven thousand year old town underneath it. The people who lived there pulled copper out of fire before anyone else in Europe, and scratched hundreds of signs into wet clay that still keep their meaning. This lesson tells their story in slow, simple Serbian, and follows the Serbian word for writing back to a root that meant scratching a picture.
In this lesson you will learn: selo · pismo · znak · bakar · glina
You will pick up the one small word that ranks any two things against each other, so you can say older than, longer than, and warmer than, and land the ending every time. You will learn the word that lets a Serbian sentence turn around and point back at somebody, the way English does with who and which. And the full story comes back to you slowly at the end, on screen, in both alphabets.
Polako means slowly. Here we learn Serbian little by little.
I'm learning Serbian myself, and the narration is an AI voice, so it trips on a word now and then, sometimes even the English ones. The stories are the point: they are what make the words stick. Correct my Serbian when I get it wrong, and tell me what you'd like to hear next. We learn malo po malo, together.
