Where the city meets the Pacific. Santa Monica is a place in constant motion—locals, visitors, performers, families, workers, and strangers crossing paths against one of Southern California's most recognizable backdrops. This collection is my observation of Santa Monica through street photography. Beyond the famous pier and coastline, I wanted to capture the people, gestures, light, movement, and small unscripted moments that give the city its character. Founded in 1875, Santa Monica has grown from a small coastal community into one of California's most recognizable beach cities. The historic Santa Monica Pier opened in 1909 and today is home to Pacific Park and its solar-powered Ferris wheel. Santa Monica is also closely associated with the western end of historic Route 66, where generations of travelers have reached the Pacific Ocean after crossing the country. But landmarks only tell part of a city's story. For me, the more interesting story is found in the people who move through these places every day—the moments that happen once and then disappear. These photographs were made during my walks through Santa Monica, California.
