Something Is Wrong With the Cassowaries of Far North Queensland.

On March 26, 2006, I found a male cassowary dead on the bitumen at Mission Beach-and that case opened a much bigger question. I examine what is happening to Far North Queensland’s southern cassowaries, from dogs and cars to the growing distance between the rainforest trees they depend on. I look beyond the familiar “dangerous bird” story to understand why this rainforest gardener, responsible for spreading the seeds of more than a hundred tree species, is disappearing.
