Meet the 16' 1958 Penn Yan Sea Liner! 9 13 2019 Snake Mountain Boatworks

We are honored to be entrusted with the comprehensive preservation of this 1958 16-foot Penn Yan Sea Liner. She is powered by a 40 HP Johnson engine, which is backed up – when it wants to, I suspect, by an iconic British Seagull single-cylinder kicker motor that hangs from an original bracket. Anthony initiated deconstruction yesterday with a most curious discovery. As was Penn Yan’s practice, virtually everything on the hull is secured using various and super whimsical brackets. The windshield is no exception, as it is not only secured to the foredeck by its own set of brackets, the entire frame, glass an all, folds up. Each section is joined by appropriately-sized piano hinges. That said, her owner has the option of removing a few fasteners, removing and folding the windshield so it can be safely stowed off-boat. Curious. The hull is absolutely sound save for the bottom transom plank, which is, well very, very punky. We must also fashion a solution to the badly rotted vertical supports on either side of the walk-thru to the helm station. Once Anthony has emptied the “innards,” and we have installed a couple of 2x4 athwart braces, it will be time to flip her and begin stripping her from keel to waterline. ….
