Robin Hood and Maid Marian
Oh, the moon was high on Sherwood,
And the silver river shone,
When Marian heard a distant song
And knew she was not alone.
Robin came beneath the oak trees,
With a longbow in his hand,
He had wandered through the greenwood,
An outlaw of the land.
Then he saw fair Maid Marian
Where the wild white roses grew,
And all the gold in Nottingham
Could never shine so true.
Robin Hood and Maid Marian,
Underneath the Sherwood moon,
Hearts together in the greenwood,
To an old English tune.
Through the rain and through the danger,
Through the night until the dawn,
Hand in hand they'll walk together,
Where the forest carries on.
Marian wore no crown of silver,
Robin owned no castle wall,
But beneath the ancient branches,
They were richer than them all.
When the sheriff's horns were sounding,
And his riders crossed the glen,
Marian stood beside her Robin,
And they vanished once again.
Robin Hood and Maid Marian,
Underneath the Sherwood moon,
Hearts together in the greenwood,
To an old English tune.
Through the rain and through the danger,
Through the night until the dawn,
Hand in hand they'll walk together,
Where the forest carries on.
Let the kings have golden chambers,
Let the lords have jewels and wine,
Give me one true heart beside me,
And your faithful hand in mine.
For no crown can buy a promise,
And no fortune buys a kiss,
In the heart of ancient England,
There is no greater wealth than this.
Robin Hood and Maid Marian,
Underneath the Sherwood moon,
Hear the bells of old Nottingham
Playing out their ancient tune.
Through the years their love will wander,
Like a song that carries on,
Through the leaves of Sherwood Forest,
From the twilight to the dawn.
And when evening falls on England,
And the stars begin to shine,
Robin whispers, “My Marian,”
And she answers, “You are mine.”
