Nine years ago, our family decluttered 80% of our possessions to embrace a more minimalist lifestyle. But here's what I've learned since then: minimalism isn't just about getting rid of stuff. It's about building habits that help you live with less long-term. In this video, I'm sharing the five minimalist habits I've maintained over the last nine years and how they help our family avoid clutter, spend less money, and live more intentionally. These aren't about having a perfectly empty home or following strict minimalist rules. They're simple, realistic habits that help us keep our belongings manageable and make everyday life a little easier. The 5 minimalist habits I share: 1. The 72-hour rule: Waiting three days before making a purchase to avoid impulse buying and give myself time to decide whether I actually need something. 2. Maintenance decluttering: Regularly letting go of things we no longer use instead of waiting until clutter becomes overwhelming. 3. Saying no to freebies: Being more intentional about what comes into our home, even when something is free. 4. Slowing down our schedules: Leaving room for rest, family time, and the things that matter instead of filling every available moment. 5. Giving everything a home: Creating simple organizational systems that work for our family and making it easier to put things away. After nine years of minimalism, I've realized that maintaining a simpler home isn't about constantly decluttering or owning as little as possible. It's about making intentional choices, creating routines that work for your life, and learning to be content with what you already have. If you're interested in minimalism, decluttering, simple living, frugal living, and consuming less, I hope these habits give you a few practical ideas to try in your own home. You don't have to declutter 80% of your belongings to benefit from minimalism. Start small, find what works for your family, and build from there. Let's connect!
