Folkestone and Mermaid Beaches alongside the Lower Leas Coastal Park. Mermaid Beach is a small seaside spot in Folkestone, on the Kent coast of southeast England. It is part of Folkestone's attractive seafront, known for its coastal views, pebbly shoreline and relaxed seaside atmosphere. Why it's called Mermaid Beach The name comes from the distinctive fish-tail-shaped rock formations forming part of the coastal sea defences. They give this stretch of shoreline its unusual character. It's a place to consider if you're looking for a quieter coastal stroll, a sea view or a pleasant stop while exploring Folkestone and Mermaid Beach. The Lower Leas Coastal Park sits just above the beach and has landscaped areas, an adventure playground and places to take a break. The scenic Zig Zag Path connects the upper town area to the seafront; some steps are steep. Access by car and small vans into Lower Leas Coastal Park is via Lower Sandgate Road there is plenty of parking (Pay and Display) although during the summer months it does become busy so best to arrive there in the morning time. There are some disabled parking spaces at the end of the parking area, where the disabled spaces are there is a short walk straight onto the play and adventure areas, with cafes and toilets. The Lower Leas Coastal Park is located at - Lower Sandgate Road, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 2JP From Folkestone along the seafront walking along the King Charles III England Coast Path will take you into Sandgate beach and town area.
