For seven years, American pilots threw everything they had at the Thanh Hoa Bridge in North Vietnam - 750-pound bombs, 3,000-pound M118s, even air-dropped mines from modified C-130s in Operation Carolina Moon. The steel truss, nicknamed the Dragon's Jaw, shrugged it all off. Five battalions of anti-aircraft artillery, radar-guided guns, and SAM sites made every run a near-suicide mission. F-105 Thunderchiefs, A-4 Skyhawks, and F-4 Phantoms attacked again and again while MiG-17s dove into their formations. Then, in 1972, laser-guided Paveway bombs changed the equation. This is the story of the longest, most costly air campaign against a single target in the Vietnam War - and the precision revolution that finally brought it down. Editorial note: This documentary features independently written narration and analysis. Selected archival footage excerpts provide visual context for the aircraft, missions, engineering decisions, and historical events examined. #WarplaneVault #VietnamWar #ThanhHoaBridge
