When your blood sugar starts creeping up, cutting out cookies is only half the story. Bread, rice, pasta and potatoes turn into sugar in your body too. These 10 low-sugar dinners are built on the simple plate method diabetes educators use: half vegetables, a quarter protein, a quarter starch. There's no weighing, no counting and no special diet food. In this video: 1. Lemon Herb Chicken with Roasted Broccoli 2. Cauliflower Fried Rice with Egg and Ham 3. Spaghetti Squash with Meat Sauce 4. Baked Salmon with Green Beans and Almonds 5. Turkey Lettuce Wraps 6. Cheeseburger Bowl (no bun, no ketchup sugar) 7. Egg Roll in a Bowl 8. Turkey and Black Bean Chili 9. Portobello Mushroom Pizzas (pizza night is back) 10. Shrimp Scampi with Zucchini Noodles Simple tips from this video: Fill half your plate with non-starchy vegetables, a quarter with protein, and a quarter with starch. Eat your vegetables and protein first and the starch last. Small studies have found this can lower the rise in blood sugar after a meal. Read labels on jarred sauces, ketchup and pickles. Many have added sugar. Rinse canned beans to wash away some of the salt. Important: if you take insulin or certain diabetes pills, eating much less starch than usual can make your blood sugar drop too low. Make changes together with your doctor or diabetes educator, and keep checking your numbers. This video is for general information, not medical advice. Every recipe includes substitute tips, so you can make it with what's already in your kitchen. Which one are you making first, and which food do you miss most since your diagnosis? Tell me in the comments. Your answer might become a future video. And if you're cooking for one, subscribe. We keep finding the meals worth making for one person. #DiabeticFriendly #LowSugarRecipes #DiabeticRecipes #SeniorCooking #CookingForOne #LowCarbDinners #Type2Diabetes #SeniorsLivingAlone #HealthyDinners #BloodSugar #PlateMethod #DinnerForOne
