Tonight, we uncover A Musical Mystery, a forgotten Victorian ghost story first published anonymously in 1860, in The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine.
Best known for its articles on fashion, household management, and domestic life, the magazine was founded by Samuel Orchart Beeton, husband of the famous Mrs Beeton, whose Book of Household Management appeared the following year.
Yet among its pages, Victorian readers could also discover strange and unsettling tales such as this one.
