Ford has unveiled a new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine for the 2027 F-150, replacing the previous 2.7-liter EcoBoost as the truck’s standard engine. Ford says the new engine keeps the same peak capability while delivering roughly 10–11% more torque in the range used during everyday driving.
The announcement comes at an interesting moment for the American auto industry. While electric vehicles continue expanding, Ford is pursuing a broader strategy that includes gasoline engines, hybrids, extended-range electric vehicles and fully electric models rather than relying on a single powertrain technology. Ford says nearly 90% of its global nameplates are planned to offer some form of electrification by 2030.
So why is this new Ford engine attracting so much attention?
The answer is the F-150 itself.
For 2027, Ford is expanding the truck’s powertrain lineup, bringing the 5.0-liter V8 back to the King Ranch and Platinum, while continuing to offer the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid. The PowerBoost hybrid combines a gasoline engine with electric motors and can produce up to 570 lb-ft of torque.
At the same time, Ford is still investing heavily in EV technology. Its Universal EV platform is being prepared for production of the new Fathom midsize electric truck, with prototype builds scheduled for 2027. Ford says the platform is designed around an ultra-efficient powertrain and a simplified manufacturing system.
That makes Ford’s strategy far more complicated than a simple battle between gasoline and electric vehicles.
In this video, we break down the new Ford 3.0-liter EcoBoost, 2027 F-150, Ford V8 engines, PowerBoost hybrid technology, EV strategy, Universal EV platform, and the changing American automotive market.
Could Ford’s latest engine and expanded hybrid lineup influence how quickly consumers move toward fully electric vehicles?
Watch until the end to understand what Ford is actually building — and why the future of the F-150 may involve gas, hybrid and electric powertrains existing side by side.
