A 40-minute ride, a road under repair. What went wrong with Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway

It was inaugurated as a new-age expressway that would cut the Lucknow-Kanpur journey to around 35–45 minutes. But less than three weeks after opening, sections of the 63-km Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway were already being repaired. At Km 64 in Unnao, a 300-metre stretch was rebuilt after what NHAI described as “localised surface slippage”. ThePrint’s ground report found repair work at several other points along the corridor, with an NHAI official saying around 80 patches had required fixing. NHAI has suspended toll collection until rectification work is completed and initiated action against the concessionaire and officials involved in the project.
