THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS (1991) REACTION | MRLBOYD REACTS | IT PUTS THE LOTION IN THE BASKET!

The Silence of the Lambs (1991) reaction and first-time watching commentary from The Film Perspective. MRLBOYD watches FBI trainee Clarice Starling enter the mind of Hannibal Lecter while hunting the serial killer known as Buffalo Bill. Directed by Jonathan Demme and based on Thomas Harris’s novel, The Silence of the Lambs stars Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Scott Glenn, Ted Levine, Anthony Heald, and Brooke Smith. FBI trainee Clarice Starling is assigned to interview imprisoned psychiatrist and murderer Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Her superiors hope Lecter can provide insight into Buffalo Bill, a serial killer who has abducted another young woman—but Lecter will only help Clarice if she reveals increasingly personal details about herself. This movie reaction covers Clarice’s first terrifying meeting with Lecter, the death’s-head moth clue, Buffalo Bill kidnapping Catherine Martin, “It puts the lotion in the basket,” Clarice and Lecter’s quid-pro-quo conversations, the childhood memory behind the screaming lambs, the storage-unit discovery, Catherine attempting to trap Precious, Lecter negotiating with Senator Martin, his transfer to Memphis, the horrifying escape, Clarice identifying Jame Gumb, the FBI surrounding the wrong house, Clarice unknowingly entering Buffalo Bill’s home alone, the night-vision confrontation, Catherine’s rescue, Clarice’s graduation, and Lecter calling while preparing to have an old friend for dinner. Who was more frightening: Hannibal Lecter or Buffalo Bill? And when did you realize Clarice—not the FBI team—had arrived at the correct house? Let me know in the comments.
