I recently visited the "Museum of Extinct Media" in Kanda, Tokyo.
The museum houses and displays items that have long since ceased production—including video cameras, still cameras, typewriters, computers, storage media, music players, mobile phones, PDAs, and cassette tapes. What makes this place truly unique—and perhaps even "unthinkable" by conventional museum standards—is that you are encouraged to touch, handle, and tinker with every single item on display.
On the day of the shoot, everyone except me was a tourist from overseas, so it seems that its reputation as a tourist attraction in Tokyo is also increasing.
For me, someone born in the Showa era, 90% of the exhibits were like being hit in the back of the head—a shock and excitement, vividly bringing back emotional memories from that time.
Even for those born in the Heisei era, this is well worth a visit; given the current resurgence of interest in things like LP records and cassette tapes, it’s a fascinating experience for people of any generation.
