Egypt is almost twice the size of France. Yet about 95% of its people live within roughly 20 km of one river, on around 6% of the country.
Why? The answer is a story 10,000 years long: a land with almost no rain, a river fed by monsoons in Ethiopia, a Sahara that was once green, the black land and the red land of the pharaohs, the Aswan High Dam that stopped the flood, and a fast-growing nation now squeezed between the desert and the sea, while upstream, Ethiopia's new mega-dam changes the river.

📌 NOTE: "6% of the land" is our own measurement from map data (a ~20 km buffer around the Nile and delta). Some general footage (dams, farmland, coastlines, construction) is illustrative and not filmed in Egypt; each shot is labelled on screen. Maps are illustrations, not to scale.
