The four pilgrims walk into Western Liang, the Women's Kingdom, where the greengrocer, the blacksmith and the guards at the gate are all women. Nobody here has ever seen a man, and the crowd blocks the road until Bajie flaps his big ears and pulls a funny face. At the post house Tang Seng shows the travel pass: every kingdom on the way has stamped it, and now it needs the queen's seal. But the queen has an idea of her own. Her country has never had a king, so she asks the monk from Great Tang to stay and offers him her throne. Tang Seng has promised to fetch the scriptures and cannot stay. Wukong's plan is to have the pass stamped first and the disciples seen out of the city, but Tang Seng reminds him that a monk must not deceive people. After a long feast (Bajie eats every dish clean) the queen adds three names to the pass, Sun Wukong, Zhu Wuneng and Sha Wujing, and presses down a great red seal. Outside the west gate Tang Seng steps down from the phoenix carriage, bows, and tells her the truth: what he has promised, he must do. The queen stands still for a moment, then wishes them a safe road.
