Retired Nigerian Supreme Court Justice Amina Augie has warned that corruption, political interference and prolonged court delays are undermining public confidence in Nigeria's judiciary. Speaking at an event in Abuja, Augie criticised misconduct among judges, lawyers and court officials, calling for stricter disciplinary measures regardless of rank or status. She also advocated financial autonomy for the judiciary, constitutional reforms to ease the Supreme Court's workload and greater respect for court orders.
Legal practitioner Tohwo Oseruvwoja joins the discussion to examine the challenges facing Nigeria's justice system, the impact of political influence and inadequate funding on judicial independence, and what reforms could help restore public trust. The conversation also considers accountability within the legal profession, access to justice and the importance of upholding the rule of law in Nigeria.
