Matthew Furman said his actions were “100%” in line with department directives. Watch the former Melvindale police lieutenant face cross-examination, then hear the judge explain his sentence: six months in jail as part of three years of probation. This courtroom breakdown follows the questions about Furman’s account, the police report, body-camera evidence and use-of-force policy. Extended original courtroom exchanges let you hear the questions and the full answers, with brief commentary at key points. CASE OUTCOMES In the July 2024 Williams case, the jury convicted Furman of misconduct in office and assault and battery, and acquitted him of felonious assault. He was acquitted on all three charges in the separate April 2024 school-stop case. The 2021 Dearborn case ended in a no-contest plea to assault and battery; its misconduct charge was dismissed. The sentence was imposed on May 29, 2026. Other sentence terms ran concurrently.
